Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a nursing outcome evaluation tool for abdominal surgery patients.

Method: Target population of this tool is adult patients with abdominal surgery under general anesthesia. Among the NOC nursing outcomes and indicators, 22 nursing outcomes and 103 core indicators were selected by nurse experts for the population. Using these, five point likert scale was developed as a nursing outcomes evaluation tool for abdominal surgery patients. Inter-rater reliability and predictive validity were tested by applying this tool to 20 patients. Two raters were participated for testing inter-rater reliability. For testing predictive validity, patients satisfaction on the nursing care obtained with VAS was used. Evaluations were performed on post-op 4th day and 1 day before discharge.

Result: The correlation coefficients between the scores from the raters were r=0.85(p=0.000) in post-op 4th day and r=0.85(p=0.000) in the day before discharge. There were no significant difference between the scores. There were significant correlations between patient satisfaction and the nursing outcome scores in post-op 4th day(r=0.47, p=0.011), and the day before discharge(r=0.47, p=0.015).

Conclusion: The reliability and the validity of this nursing outcomes evaluation tool for abdominal surgery patients were validated.
